Enterprise Energy Management & Optimization Platform

architecture

Executive Summary

A multi-site enterprise with plants, data centers, and offices had no unified view of energy. Each site metered differently, bills were reconciled manually, waste went unnoticed, and there was no defensible carbon accounting for ESG reporting. Energy decisions were made on stale spreadsheets.
Tech4Biz engineered an Enterprise Energy Management & Optimization Platform: multi-protocol acquisition, a normalized energy data model, AI optimization and anomaly detection, cost and carbon accounting, and control write-back, integrated with ERP, BMS, CMMS, and BI, aligned to ISO 50001.
EMS is delivered as an engineered software platform running on standard energy gateways and existing meters/BMS; this document details the architecture, engineered components, dashboards, and measurable outcomes.

Problem Statement

  • No unified visibility : every site metered and reported differently; no enterprise rollup.
  • Manual bill reconciliation : tariff and cost validation done by hand, error-prone.
  • Undetected waste : off-hours running, drift, and standby load invisible.
  • No optimization : no ranked, quantified savings actions or simulation.
  • Weak carbon accounting : no defensible Scope 1/2/3 data for ESG and compliance.
  • Disconnected systems : energy data siloed from ERP, BMS, CMMS, and BI.

The Engineered Solution

A custom platform combining acquisition, a normalized model, AI optimization, and reporting. Four layers:

Metering / Sources Layer

  • Utility meters, sub-meters, BMS/SCADA points, and on-site generation (solar, DG, BESS) across all sites.

Edge / Acquisition Layer — Energy Gateway

  • Multi-protocol acquisition (Modbus, BACnet, OPC-UA, MQTT), edge normalization, power-quality calculation, and control write-back to BMS.

Core / Optimization Layer

  • Data platform, energy model (EnPI, cost allocation, ISO 50001 baselines), AI optimization and anomaly detection, a control engine for peak shaving, and sustainability/carbon accounting.

Applications & Reporting Layer

  • Energy dashboard, optimization UI, ESG/compliance reports, and mobile alerts over REST/OPC-UA/BACnet/MQTT, integrated with ERP, CMMS, BMS, utility billing, carbon registry, and BI.

Engineered Platform Components

EMS value is in the platform and models rather than a bespoke board. Key engineered components:

Multi-Protocol Energy Gateway

  • Normalizes heterogeneous meters and BMS points into a single tag model with power-quality metrics and store-and-forward.

Energy Model & EnPI Engine

  • Consumption modeling, cost allocation, and energy-performance indicators with ISO 50001-ready baselines.

AI Optimization & Anomaly Detection

  • Ranks quantified savings actions, detects waste and drift, and predicts demand for peak shaving.

Carbon & ESG Engine

  • Scope 1/2/3 carbon accounting, renewable-share tracking, and audit-ready ESG reporting.

Applications

Enterprise Energy Dashboard

Enterprise consumption, cost, and CO2 with year-on-year deltas; consumption and cost by site with EnPI and budget variance; aggregate load profile with peak window; energy mix; and an anomaly/alert feed.

screen dashboard

Optimization & Analytics

AI recommendations ranked by annual savings with payback and effort, a savings-potential breakdown, projected impact on savings/CO2/EnPI, and a carbon and sustainability summary against a net-zero pathway.
